Chapter Five – Lauren

How I managed to move when Rebekka finished was beyond me. What the woman could do was nothing short of magical. If I hadn’t been anticipating Mack’s return, I would have spent a good part of the evening on the massage bed, indulging in a long nap.

Instead, I thanked and tipped Rebekka, then changed into the simple blue bikini I’d packed and wrapped myself up in one of the luxurious terry cloth robes hanging in the bathroom. Barefoot, I went out to the patio. The sun was starting to set. Vibrant pink, orange and dusty violet hues drifted into the blue of the sky. The only light on the patio came from the Christmas lights strung from the beams of the pergola.

I went to the table, selecting the bottle of Pinot Grigio. At some point during my massage, someone had come in, uncorked the two bottles and had put them on ice to chill. I poured a glass, then popped a raspberry in my mouth and chased it with a sip. The flavor was light and refreshing, the subtle sweetness muting the dryness.

As far as a Pinot Grigio went, it was sublime. I’d have to make it a point to score a bottle or two to bring home with me.

The door to the suite opened and I turned to the sound. Mack walked in, wearing the same type of robe I had on. His hung open, exposing a body that would make gods envious. His physique looked as if it had been artfully sculpted, the muscles chiseled to perfection. The only hair on his upper body was a faint trail that disappeared under the waistband of his suit.

Lord, he was a good-looking man. I don’t know what the hell I had done to earn the attention of a guy like Mack DeAndrews. Part of me was starting to question whether any of this was even real. The extravagant suite, lavish meals, the handsome cowboy attentive to my every need seemed more than I deserved.

“How was your massage?”

He removed his robe, hanging it over one of the chairs and filled a glass of wine for himself. I was currently draining the contents of mine, praying it would wet my dry mouth.

“It was amazing. What that woman can do with her hands should be illegal.” I held my glass out for a refill. “You don’t have to keep spoiling me. I’ll take the podcast down.”

The look he gave me caused heat to pool low in my stomach. “Oh, this has nothing to do with the podcast. It might have at first, but now-.” He lifted a hand, tracing his fingers along the curve of my jaw. An involuntary sigh tripped past my lips. “Well ma’am...I’m still trying to figure that out.”

You and me both, cowboy.

He gestured for me to move to the hot tub, then offered a hand to help me in. I could not remember the last time a man had done something like that for me, something so simple and well mannered.
